Chiranjeevi Mahabubnagar Tour Concluded…

4 03 2009

MAHABUBNAGAR: The mood among the workers and leaders of Praja Rajyam is upbeat what with huge turnouts at the road shows addressed by actor-turned-politician and party chief Chiranjeevi.

During his four-day tour in the district, which concluded on Monday night, he covered 13 Assembly constituencies in the district . The lone Assembly segment left was Alampur.

Though Chiranjeevi’s speech was repetitive, the crowds responded with loud cheers whenever he criticised Congress and Telugu Desam parties. Most of them were youth who waited patiently for hours in the scorching sun to have a glimpse of their favourite hero.

Mr. Chiranjeevi appealed to the people to vote for Praja Rajyam for a change, development of the State and corruption-free governance. He lashed out at the government and Telugu Desam for ignoring people’s problems and indulging in corruption.

He said Mahabubnagar was not a backward district, but it was “pushed backward” by the successive governments though there were resources aplenty. Although river Krishna traverses through the district, the governments failed not only in providing water for irrigation but also drinking water. Due to lack of water for irrigation, people were forced to migrate to other places in search of livelihood, he added.

He tried to touch the hearts of people evincing concern over their miseries. Mr. Chiranjeevi interacted with the farm labourers who were migrating to Mumbai by boarding a Mumbai-bound RTC bus which happened to go past his convoy. He also interacted with the lambadas at Sarvareddypally tanda. Besides tasting their food, he danced with them. Mr. Chiranjeevi also took interest in the problems faced by handloom weavers in the district.

PRP First list of the contesting candidates by March 10: Chiranjeevi

2 03 2009

MAHABUBNAGAR: Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi on Monday said that the first list of the contesting candidates of his party in the ensuing election would be announced by March 10.

Speaking to media persons at Achampet town in the district, he said there was no confusion about the selection of candidates.

He said in fact he wanted to make public the first list on March 1 or 2 itself, but due to some unavoidable circumstances it was getting delayed.

He brushed aside the news that only his relatives and family members have a say in deciding candidates to be fielded in the election.

“We are following all democratic norms in selecting the candidates. We have asked the district conveners of our party to submit the list of candidates who were aspiring to contest the elections from their respective constituencies and subsequently they will be short listed,” he said.

Mr. Chiranjeevi said there was a chance to appeal to the Chief Election Commission once again on the issue of common symbol to his party in coming elections.

Mr. Chiranjeevi said his government would pass resolutions in the State Assembly on creation of Telangana State and categorisation of SCs in the event of his party coming to power.

MRPS row

He said the Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy government should take the responsibility for the present agitation undertaken by MRPS.

This government had created hopes among the Madiga community on categorisation but deceived them.

The PR chief said his party would ensure categorisation of SCs as a part of social justice.

Referring to the comments of CPI (M) State secretary B.V.Raghavalu that if Mr. Chiranjeevi was serious about defeating the Congress, he should join the Mahakutami, the actor-turned politician said asking him to join the Mahakutami proved that they were weak.

Fourth front

He said efforts were on with regard to formation of fourth front.

Asked to comment on the statement of BJP leader M.Venkaiah Naidu, who recently said that fourth front was nothing but an utopian thought, Mr. Chiranjeevi said that Mr. Naidu might have felt that more fronts in the fray would weaken their chances of winning.

“There is nothing wrong in forming a fourth front when efforts are on for forming a third front why not fourth front,” he asked.

Referring to the wordy duel between Telugu Mahila president Roja and Mahila Rajyam president Shobarani he found fault with both.

Mr. Chiranjeevi said that he had already admonished Ms. Shobarani for her unwarranted personal comments. But he said Ms. Roja also indulged in character assassination.

He said though she made personnel attack on his family members they did not seek an apology. “If Ms. Roja apologises, Ms. Shobarani also will apologise.”

Mahabubnagar: Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi on Sunday asserted that his party alone would provide responsible and accountable governance in the State.

On the third day of his Praja Ankitha Yatra in the district, his road shows at Pebbair, Srirangapur, Veepangandla, Chinnambai, Jetaprolu, Pentlavelli, Kollapur, Pedda Kothapalli, Nagarkurnool, Telkapalli and Achampet drew good response.

At his roadside meetings he addressed thousands of people, specially youth who thronged to have a glimpse of the actor-turned-politician, lashing out at Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu. They ruled the State as per their whims and fancies, turning a blind eye to the plight of the people, he alleged, adding that they used the floor of the Assembly to settle personal scores. “They abused each other, exposed each other on their illegal earnings and how they amassed public money,” he said.

Mr. Chiranjeevi said the Congress Government’s ‘Jalayagnam’ had only increased bank balances and properties of Dr. Reddy and party MLAs and leaders. Neither had a single acre been brought under the plough, nor had it quenched people’s thirst for drinking water. He said though Mr. Naidu had adopted Mahabubnagar district promising to develop it, all that people here had got was step-motherly treatment.

Mahabubnagar: Praja Rajyam (PR) president Chiranjeevi said that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has become the high command to central leaders of his party based at New Delhi and was doing things as per his wish.

Addressing a State-level PR cadre training camp for poll campaign and poll execution held here on Saturday, he said that Dr. Reddy has reached the stage of commanding the Central leaders of his party.

He alleged that funds raised in Andhra Pradesh were being used in other States whenever there were elections. He appealed to the cadre to be cautious of Congress and TDP as both parties were trying to lure them with money. “They are trying to create confusion among the voters by purchasing our leaders. We should not allow them to succeed in their dirty game,” he said.

Ridiculing the development claims of Dr. Reddy and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu, he said the pathetic state of Mahabunagar district is the glaring example of their development.

“Despite being adopted by Mr. Naidu for a whole nine years, lakhs of people in Mahabubnagar still migrate to other States for eking out their livelihood every year,” he said.

Mr. Chiranjeevi said that Mahabubnagar was not a backward district but a district that was pushed to backwardness by the successive governments. Former Minister T. Devender Goud said Chiranjeevi’s leadership was a historical necessity in the State. Describing the coming elections as a crusade, he exhorted each of the cadre to become a well-trained soldier. The PR president received tumultuous reception at every crossroads in Mahabubnagar where he undertook his road shows as part of his four-day tour in the district.

People in thousands, especially youth, turned up braving the scorching sun.

Chiranjeevi planning to tour Kurnool and Mahabubnagar before February end.

15 02 2009

February 15th 2009 – HYDERABAD: Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi on Saturday said that he was planning tours of Kurnool and Mahabubnagar before month-end.

He said his tour of Guntur district had clearly shown that people wanted change and that they were willing to give a new entrant to politics a fair chance.

He told presspersons at Begumpet airport on his return from a five-day campaign that people were eager to welcome him everywhere he went, unmindful of long hours of wait. Having seen the Telugu Desam and the Congress in power, they were of the opinion that a chance to the Praja Rajyam was well in order.

When asked about TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s criticism that he knew nothing about politics, Mr. Chiranjeevi quipped, “Did NTR know anything about active politics when he hit the road? All that matters is the passion to understand people’s problems, the will to serve and strive to improve the lot of the weaker sections.”
