KURNOOL: The five-day tour of Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi in Kurnool district served as a stimulant and confidence building exercise for the party mechanism.

Chiranjeevi travelled 482 km by road and addressed meetings in 13 Assembly segments covering all except Mantralayam before concluding the tour at Yemmiganur on Sunday. The response was overwhelming to his road shows in the upland area of Kodumur, Pathikonda, Aluru and Adoni. Mr. Chiranjeevi and other party leaders expressed happiness over the large turnout at the meetings.

Mr. Chiranjeevi told reporters at Aluru on Sunday that the main electoral fight would be between the Congress and the PRP in the State and exuded confidence that his party would emerge victorious. He refused to draw a parallel between his road shows and those of NTR saying the latter was a legend. Chiranjeevi had his own way of doing things, he said.

Addressing the road show, Chiranjeevi made a scathing attack on the Jalayagnam exercise and asked people would perennially drought areas like Aluru and Pathikonda ever get water. More than Rs. 45,000 crore was spent and another Rs 1.70 lakh crore was required to complete the projects. Even then Aluru was not on the agenda of the government, he said. PR district convener Bhuma Nagireddy and his wife Sobha Nagireddy accompanied Chiranjeevi all along his tour of the district.

Chiru Kurnool Tour Day4: Chiranjeevi hints at fourth front

22 02 2009

KURNOOL: Praja Rajyam (PR) president Chiranjeevi hinted at the formation of a fourth front at the national level under the stewardship of leaders such as Lalu Prasad and Sharad Pawar. One should think beyond UPA, NDA and the third front at national level, he said.

Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Mr. Chiranjeevi wondered why the PR was being questioned about a possible alliance with the BJP in spite of denials it had issued about a possible tie-up with the NDA. “The question of PR joining hands with the BJP does not arise as a matter of policy,” he said.Mr. Chiranjeevi said the PR would institute an inquiry by a sitting judge into the murky deals of the Congress and TDP governments if it came to power. The PR leader faulted the TDP-TRS-Left alliance for trying to project itself as a “champion of honesty in public life” by levelling serious corruption charges against the Congress government when its partners could not absolve themselves of allegations of corruption levelled against them. He proposed to contest from two places.

The PR would give due representation to weaker sections, especially the BCs by giving seats in proportion to their population. Mr. Chiranjeevi desired to field senior journalists in two or three places.

He said he would feel proud if his party became the choice of intellectuals such as journalists.

Chiranjeevi would contest from Tirupati and from one more seat from the Godavari districts

Kurnool: Praja Rajyam party president Chiranjeevi addressed a series of meetings at Velugodu, Atmakur, Pamulapadu and Nandikotkur before reaching Kurnool on Friday. He halted briefly at the Velugodu balancing reservoir to have the glimpse of the water spread area.

Mr. Chiranjeevi tried to drive home the point that people attending his meetings were serious about the policies of the party. There was no truth in the charge that they were awed by filmi glamour, he said. On the free power policy, he clarified that it was not the concession given to farmers alone but to the entire society. With the free power, farmers were not charging air-conditioners or refrigerators but producing food for people. If the government was concerned about the welfare of farmers, power should be supplied during the day. 0Party general secretary Allu Aravind who spoke to reporters said Chiranjeevi would contest from Tirupati and from one more seat from the Godavari districts. It would depend on the collective decision of the party, he said and added that Pawan Kalyan and Naga Babu would not be in the electoral battle.

February 19th 2009 – KURNOOL: Praja Rajyam will make all the difference in the politics of the State soon, party chief Chiranjeevi has said.

Talking to reporters at Allagadda on Thursday, he said the Praja Rajyam was delaying the finalisation of the manifesto as the Congress was copying everything from it. Whatever promised by him was implemented by the Congress, he said.

Mr. Chiranjeevi said though the CNN-IBN channel enjoyed the highest credibility, the poll survey of the channel failed to gauge mood of the people at the grassroots level.

He said the party would finalise the selection of candidates by the end of the month. There was delay on account of involvement of district conveners in the selection process, who were asked to gather information of potential candidates.

Dismisses claims
He dismissed the claims of the Mahakutami saying the parties had no common agenda and every party had its own policies and ideology.

People would not take seriously the opportunistic alliances, which were forged for electoral gains. Mr. Chiranjeevi hoped that the Election Commission would grant the common symbol to the party by the end of the month considering the strength of the party.

Within a month of the party’s birth, lakhs of people have joined it. Even the sitting MLAs resigned from the Assembly and joined the party.

To a question, Mr. Chiranjeevi clarified that the Praja Rajayam had no truck with the BJP or any other party except Nava Telengana Party.

February 19th 2009 – KURNOOL: Praja Rajayam president Chiranjeevi kick-started his campaign in Kurnool district from Dhone on Wednesday.

The PR chief will tour the district for five days addressing meetings and roadshows in 30 towns.

As the convoy of the actor snaked its way through the narrow streets of Dhone, thousands of slogan shouting youth and women milled around the place.

At many junctions, the youth blocked the convoy to have a glimpse of the actor. Five persons sustained injuries in the melee and the police resorted to caning at R.S. Rangapuram. Mr. Chiranjeevi himself was seen pleading with the police not to be harsh with the crowd. At some place, the PRP volunteers and belligerent crowd scuffled.

After landing at Dhone, Chiranjeevi addressed the gatherings at Kambalapadu centre and Old Bus stand. “Scared by the overwhelming response to my meetings, the leaders of other parties were spreading rumours that the public were coming only to see him”, he said.

He said the Praja Rajyam would emerge as a third force in the State, an alternative to the Congress and the TDP. The PR had set the tone for a change in the State. One could infer from the mutual accusations of corruption between the TDP and Congress leaders how much public money was looted in the State.

‘Image tarnished’

Only the PR could change the destiny of the State and bring respect to politics. People were disappointed by the unruly behaviour of the members in the House, which witnessed the scholarly debate of stalwarts like Puchalapalli Sundaraiah and Vavilala Gopalakrishnaiah. The PR would restore the glory of the Assembly, he said.

He challenged the parties for an open debate over development in the last five decades and criticised the poor state of hospitals and schools in the State.

Chiranjeevi planning to tour Kurnool and Mahabubnagar before February end.

15 02 2009

February 15th 2009 – HYDERABAD: Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi on Saturday said that he was planning tours of Kurnool and Mahabubnagar before month-end.

He said his tour of Guntur district had clearly shown that people wanted change and that they were willing to give a new entrant to politics a fair chance.

He told presspersons at Begumpet airport on his return from a five-day campaign that people were eager to welcome him everywhere he went, unmindful of long hours of wait. Having seen the Telugu Desam and the Congress in power, they were of the opinion that a chance to the Praja Rajyam was well in order.

When asked about TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s criticism that he knew nothing about politics, Mr. Chiranjeevi quipped, “Did NTR know anything about active politics when he hit the road? All that matters is the passion to understand people’s problems, the will to serve and strive to improve the lot of the weaker sections.”
