Chiranjeevi’s 150th film

15 12 2011

The 150th film of actor-turned-politician, Chiranjeevi, has always been in the news. There were several names, themes and directors that had filled the rumour mills. All the best names had surfaced only to be negated with the passage of time. Nothing concrete has materialised on the mega star’s landmark film. The latest buzz is that Murugadoss will direct the film. The talk gained currency after the success of Seventh Sense. This was followed by the appreciation of Tamil directors by Ram Charan Tej, which stirred the hornets’ nest in Tollywood and senior artiste Balakrishna taking objection to his young hero’s words.

When everyone thought a storm is brewing and the two big families would lock horns, Chiranjeevi managed to cool tempers. Later, Balakrishna too raised the white flag and said he did not intend to hurt Ram Charan or any of his family members. Setting aside the controversy, the 150th film of Chiranjeevi has been widely discussed and the names of big directors starting from V.V. Vinayak have come up. Chiranjeevi has been busy with politics for the past two-and-a-half years, but is keen to complete his 150th film. Even N.T. Rama Rao and M.G. Ramachandran acted in films after entering politics, and both were chief ministers. NTR worked in a couple of films while he was chief minister and also faced the camera while he was out of office. Who Chiranjeevi will please and how soon, only time will tell. Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan, brothers Pawan Kalyan and Nagababu and nephew Allu Aravind are all active in the industry.

Chiranjeevi PRP Merges with Congress

18 02 2011

NEW DELHI: Congress in Andhra Pradesh today got a major boost today when actor Chiranjeevi announced the merger of his Praja Rajyam Party with it that could come as a breather for the ruling party facing rebellion from Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and the sensitive Telangana issue.

After weeks of back channel talks between the two parties, actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi, a strong votary of a united Andhra Pradesh, met Congress chief Sonia Gandhi at her residence here for over 50 minutes and finalised his merger plans that could bring new political alignment in the state.

“We have decided to merge the PRP with the Congress. It is in the best interests of the state of Andhra Pradesh… it is an historic occasion for (the state and the two parties),” he told reporters outside Gandhi’s residence.

During the meeting, attended by Congress leaders A K Antony and Veerappa Moily, 55-year-old Chiranjeevi said he discussed with Sonia the current political situation in the state and various developmental projects that will benefit people.

Moily said: “We welcome him. He has joined the Congress family from today.”

Chiranjeevi’s PRP, which was launched in August, 2008, has 18 MLAs in the 294-member Andhra Pradesh Assembly and his decision to merge with Congress can give its government some stability in case the 25 party MLAs loyal to Jagan break from it.

The actor also brings with him a considerable chunk of backward Kapu community votes spread mainly in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions, but has only negligible in the Telangana area where a strong separatist movement is currently on.

Troubled by the revolt of Jagan, son of late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, the Congress had removed the ageing veteran K Rosaiah and brought in a much younger Kiran Kumar Reddy and had been working on other ways to strengthen the party.

MLAs loyal to Reddy have been attending rallies and fasts organised by the young leader defying the party High Command.

The PRP has 18 MLAs in the 294-member state Assembly and the Jagan camp claims to have the support of at least 25 MLAs. By roping in Chiranjeevi, the Congress, which has 155 MLAs, may be able to face a trial of strength in the Assembly more confidently.

Of the 18 PRP MLAs, two are with Jagan and one is in support of Telangana movement.

Chiranjeevi said PRP’s merger with Congress was agreed upon without any pre-conditions as he was bothered “only about the betterment of the poor, downtroden and deprived sections of the society.”

“No. Not all. I don’t have such motives. I will be working for the people as I am (doing) now,” he said, replying to a volley of queries whether he would be part of the state government.

Chiranjeevi Mega Re-Entry in to Movies

1 09 2010

MEGA STAR CHIRANJEEVI is expected to make a come back to filmdom for his 150th film. His son, Ramcharan Tej, announced that his father will act in his 150th film which will in all probability release next year on the megastar’s birthday.

Well, put it down to the pressure from his fans who want him to act, or his own reason to do so after his short ‘stint’ in politics, he has shown that an actor can’t be kept away from his craft for very long.

More so when his ilk (contemporaries and older actors) continue in films. Perhaps, the urge return to films is quite strong enough to make him make that move.

Chiranjeevi had hinted about his comeback at the recent audio release of Rajnikant’s Robot which was a fun-filled evening when a lot was said about Robot and friendly digs were taken at other actors.

When Chiranjeevi took the stage at the end, he said he was jealous of Rajni after seeing the trailers of Robot.

“I thought Rajni would enter politics, so I plunged into it early. But, he did not, and made Robot. I feel cheated since I have entered politics and can’t back out now. Recently, my fans asked me to do a film, but I said, no. After seeing the trailers of Robot, I feel like doing a film again. If at all I do a film in future, it would be thanks to Robot,” he said at the event.

Chiranjeevi also hoped he would do a film with Shankar.

The buzz now is that the megastar is listening to scripts. Chiranjeevi has done ‘message-oriented films towards the end of his first innings. Now he would perhaps be looking for a powerful film for a power-packed re-entry!

Chiru East Godavari Tour: PR will cross ‘magic figure’ of 150

29 03 2009

JAGGAMPETA: Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi expressed confidence that his party will be ahead of all others in the forthcoming elections and cross the ‘magic figure’ of 150 seats to form the government in the State.

Sporting a silk dhoti and ‘kanduva’ in true Telugu style to celebrate Ugadi, Mr. Chiranjeevi released the first list of 100 Assembly and nine Lok Sabha candidates. He said at a press conference that this Ugadi would be a turning point in his life as his party was confident in capturing power.

Social justice plank

Replying to a question, he said his commitment to social justice was reflected in the first list in which 73 per cent of the seats were given to the weaker sections.

He said that perhaps for the first time a person belonging to the Most Backward Class (MBC) – Moucha, a Madiga sub caste – was given a ticket.

The candidate was Rajamouli for the Warangal (SC) Lok Sabha seat. In fact, Backward Classes and Scheduled Castes had been given the ticket even for the general seats.

Asked how the party would handle dissidence after announcing the entire list of candidates, he said the Praja Rajyam workers were disciplined, although there would be some people who could not control their anger and anguish.

Senior party leaders Harirama Jogaiah, K.S.R. Murthy and M.S. Chakravarti, Vanga Geetha and Jyothula Nehru were present.

Later, Mr. Chiranjeevi was visibly jubilant on getting news over phone from his brother-in-law Allu Aravind that the Supreme Court had asked the Election Commission to allot the symbol of ‘rail engine’ to the Praja Rajyam. “My train has arrived. This is the Ugadi gift to me and activists of the Praja Rajyam,” he added. The actor who was in Kattamuru village in Peddapuram mandal, put his trademark gesture of widened hands with both the thumbs up and declared to the gathering “we have got a common symbol.”

The Praja Rajyam president announced earlier in the day that Mr. Allu Aravind would contest the elections from a place which was yet to be decided while his actor brothers – Naga Babu and Pavan Kalyan – would keep away from the fray.

Balloons released

As party activists released balloons symbolising the colours of the Praja Rajyam’s flag, scores of women jostled to put vermillion on his forehead and offer ‘harati’ at several places in Jaggampeta, Katravulapalli, Timmapuram and other junctions.

Blessings

Earlier in the day, Mr. Chiranjeevi was blessed by pundits who read out Vedic hymns as also the Telugu almanac for the New Year.

As the clock struck 9.27 a.m., the party leader began announcing the names of his party candidates.

Chiru’s road show TDP’s star campaign in East Godavari district

29 03 2009

Tuni (East Godavari dt.): Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi’s road show in Tuni town was marred by the collapse of a parapet wall of a bus shelter under construction at Rama Talkies Junction, which resulted in injuries to 10 persons, two of whom are said to be in a serious condition. They were admitted to the GGH at Kakinada.

Scores of fans and PRP activists climbed on top of the structure and fell on the wall while jostling for space to have a look at their idol. Praja Rajyam party president K. Chiranjeevi received a tremendous response from the people, particularly women and youth, for his road shows that began in East Godavari district at Kotanandur in Tuni Assembly constituency on Thursday.

The crowds clearly outnumbered the ones drawn by TDP’s star campaigner NTR Jr. during his recent three-day tour of these places, giving a strong indication of the mass appeal for Chiranjeevi in this part of the State.

Addressing impressive gatherings at Tuni and the nearby Payakaraopeta in Visakhapatnam district, Mr. Chiranjeevi said he was overwhelmed by the affection shown to him by the people and vowed to reciprocate the support he received in his three decade-long film career. He clarified that it was the people’s craving for change that prompted him to take the plunge into politics but not the urge to amass wealth.

The PRP founder exhorted people to prove sceptics wrong by voting for his party and thus pave the way for corruption-free governance and balanced development. He observed that both the Congress and TDP have made several promises but kept only a few.

Mana Party ties up with Praja Rajyam

29 03 2009

HYDERABAD: The Praja Rajyam (PR) has formally entered into an electoral alliance with Mana Party, started by Member of the Legislative Council, Kasani Gyaneshwar.

At a press conference here on Thursday, Praja Rajyam general secretary Allu Aravind shook hands with Mr. Gyaneshwar.

Welcoming the man who established a separate party and had representatives of 93 Backward Classes, he said it was proof of people’s faith in Praja Rajyam.

Ultimate proof
PR general secretary said Mr. Gyaneshwar firming up an electoral alliance was ultimate proof that he believed that Praja Rajyam would establish and showcase itself as the champion for social justice.

Without taking names, he said some parties got jittery that PR would reach out to the weaker sections and hence announced lists of candidates proclaiming how they were for social justice. They would surely be proved wrong and people would soon see which party was honest and sincere in its claims when the PR announces its list in a day or two, he said. To repeated queries about the list, he said that in all likelihood, Mr. Chiranjeevi himself would announce the names on Friday, during his tour of East Godavari district.
